How dangerous are the mobile operators’ antennas?

Today we going to tell you about the first and hopefully our last case, in which we have found an elevated rate of electromagnetic field generated by an a mobile operator antenna.

In general, most concerns are that when you have an antenna near or above you 📡, it is necessarily dangerous. To date (Feb 2023), we have tested over 500 antennas placed above and around our clients’ homes and have only had one case of electromagnetic pollution in excess of 100 mW/m2, which is still considered safe in many countries. In fact, the electromagnetic radiation ☢ is lowest under the antenna. On the contrary, when you are in direct line of sight, the antenna’s range affects you, with impact directly related to the proximity and the power ⚡ of the transmitter. Most antennas in Bulgaria are installed in compliance with the legal distance and density requirements. Unfortunately, although it is rare, there are residential buildings that are too close to the stations of the mobile operators, so that the electromagnetic radiation exceeds more than twice the safe norm.

On the other hand, it is important to note that we often underestimate the sources of electromagnetic fields around us. We take it for granted that we talk for long hours ⌛ on our mobile phones 📱 holding them next to our head, or spend our day and even sleep 🛌 near to the WI-FI routers 📻. What we need to know is that electromagnetic radiation 30 centimeters away from a router or a cell phone is comparable to that of a mobile operator antenna, which is 30 meters away in a straight line.

Let’s return to our gracious hosts in a pleasant metropolitan neighborhood whose neighbors above them had become ill 🤮 within two years of placing an operator’s antenna on the block across the street. They called us with a request for a comprehensive survey of their home, as they were planning to buy the apartment next door, but were worried about the health of their neighbors upstairs. We measured everything in the house and everything was excellent. But when we went upstairs to the upper-level apartment, much to our surprise the electromagnetic smog sensor started signaling for values above 100 mW/m2. With the windows closed, the device measured between 180-200 mW/m2, and with the windows open exceeded 280-300 mW/m2, levels that most scientific studies would not consider harmless.

We found empirically that the direct line of sight and the proximity of the antenna to the upper floor, in addition to the lack of shielding by walls and windows, resulted in significantly higher electromagnetic radiation than several floors below.
