Professional waterproofing reduces the ingress of radon into your HOME

radon barrier

Today we will tell you about the survey of a wonderful property at the foot of Vitosha mountain, which we recently had the pleasure of certifying as “Safe”. The house has a built-up area of over 400 sq. m. and was built 4-5 years ago, with high class construction materials. We went through everything, literally everything, for over 4 hours. There was no humidity, the air was clear as crystal, electromagnetic smog was negligible, with routers and cell phones turned off. Apparently, every single item had been carefully selected and crafted. Even the stone pavements had low gamma background. We found only two bedside lamps with gamma background above 0.350 – 0.370 µSv/h, which if they were not next to the child’s bed, we would not have even mentioned to client. But given the proximity to the cot, we recommended that they be replaced.

What we were primarily invited to do was to examine for potential risk of higher radon levels in the ground floor. We did an eight-hour measurement and were surprised that the radon levels were in the order of 15-20 Bq/m3. We had a lengthy discussion with the owners for the possible reason. We also consulted with a chemical engineer. Ultimately, we have found that a well-made waterproofing reduces the ingress of radon into the premises from the ground floor. Good news for all those who are now building their homes. Choose high-quality waterproofing for the foundations and be vigilant when placing it so that there are no pores and cracks for the radon to ingress your basement!
